It starts, Day: 1

on

18th MAY 2016

Any early get up after a only fair nights sleep. My itchiness from the bites has subsided but still awoke with the need to scratch a few times!

We took our time getting ready (including a big bowl of porridge with brown sugar) and headed for the Hospital at about 745am, it only took 15 minutes to get there but at least we managed to get a spot in the 1hr parking lot.

After paperwork and form signing, Dave was seated in his armchair and the process began. First warming his hands and veins in hot water bath then inserting a cannula into his left hand  and administering pre-meds including Panadol, anti-nausea drugs and other things.

Then the very lovely nurse began the first of 4 chemotherapy infusions – the 1st a red liquid directly into the cannula then another 3 through a drip. 2 bags of fluids were also given.

As you may realize, Dave has a sweet tooth. He has been joking that he was looking forward to the treatment to get free biscuits and tea! Well the first packet of ‘jury biscuits’ was eaten by 9am 🙂 He decided to have 2 sugars in his tea, even though he’s only ben having one since last year. Really the only sign all day that he wasn’t 100%. He had two more lots of biscuits during the morning, then a plate of slightly stale turkey and cheese sandwiches for lunch. He picked off the turkey, and I ate his plate of fruit.

We thought we were going to be there for around 6 hours, but were done by 1230. Only had to move the car three times 🙁

So we went home and rested and watched a couple of old movies on TV, then went for a 1/2hr walk around Kingston Foreshore. He was feeling a little nauseous in the early evening but did manage a big home-made dinner of lamb cutlets, potato and pumpkin mash and vegies.

The picture on the front is looking across to Victoria’s new apartment 🙂
