Day 3 – 20th May

on

I’m feeling a little odd.

Dave has gone to work today as he’s feeling really good and doesn’t want to waste the opportunity to get some work done while he’s feeling up to it. He did 31 push ups this morning just to get one up on yesterdays tally and prove he is fighting fit!  I’m so pleased he’s doing well so far, and have no doubt that all those well wishes and prayers are having an impact. But I’m still feeling weird.

I’m a bit bored. I’m a bit lonely. I’m missing Wagga and especially Will and my dog, Darryl.  I’m missing my routine, and my bed, and my kitchen and my bath. I’m missing my workmates, my team and my job.

I’m missing Victoria too – but that’s normal!

It’s not that I want to go home, I want to stay here and be with Dave through this treatment. I would hate to be at home. I just think I want to be useful, and apart from making Dave cupcakes for him and his workmates and dropping them to him for morning tea today, I’ve not really done anything useful.  I spend so many hours a day normally getting things done. I’m not getting things done here.

I was well aware that this time was going to challenge me. I didn’t think I would be bored though!

Its all learning, and positive and … anyway enough about me.

The internet is full of amazing amounts of information on Cancer. Websites, forums, blogs, support networks etc. I have read so much information, and on the whole its been very useful, especially peoples personal accounts in forums and the like. It’s good to hear what others have encountered. I especially liked reading one last night where the person had no symptoms or side effects of cancer or treatment at all 🙂

Dave is having a treatment called ABDV. There are four types of chemotherapy drugs administered. Click on this link for more information. Its a UK site, but nice and simple.

So what will we have for dinner tonight? Plenty of fibre to keep the system going. Not too much fat (same reason). There’s s no sign of a sore mouth or any reduction in taste buds, so no need for soft or especially flavorsome food just yet.

I might head to the Canberra Farmers and Foodies Market after 3pm and make some of my Brussels sprout chips if I can find some Brussels sprouts which I should be able to as Autumn is their season. With a nice lean steak and some crushed kiplfler potatoes maybe.

Ok maybe I can be useful – off I go shopping!!

PS: A pic of my cat – whom I’m also missing! He was not happy when I got my bag out to pack to come away – so he sat on it, haha.
