Day 4: 21st May

on

Yay – its the Weekend!

Even though I’m on leave, I’m still glad it’s the weekend. For starters, Dave will definitely be home for a couple of days and not be tempted to go to work.  We also have Will visiting us in Canberra for the weekend which we are both very excited about. Dave has been asking him to come and visit him in Canberra since he started working here 3 years ago – but has only visited a couple of times briefly.

This is one of those ‘positives’ that we are finding with this whole Cancer thing.

Its so easy to say ‘good things come out of bad situations’. You see it quoted in numerous  Facebook posts in a variety of guises. You hear it from well-meaning friends as soon as you share bad news. You sprout it yourself quite easily when you don’t know what to say to someone doing it tough.

But is it true? Do we ever get to the spot where we are actually convinced that the bad news was good for us?

I can’t answer that yet. But I will let you know 🙂

So no Brussels sprouts  at the markets. But what a great market the ‘Canberra Farmers and Foodies’ market it is. A fabulous range of local food, great live music, fun atmosphere,  and very tasty ready-to-eat food. I sat quietly and watched it all happen while enjoying a delicious cup of ‘Pho’ – a traditional Vietnamese soup,  flavorsome and spicy.

I may or may not have also grabbed a dozen south coast oysters – and had a great chat to the oyster farmer while he shucked them. We certainly have some amazing produce in this country.

Dave had tinned spaghetti on toast for dinner – but I don’t feel guilty, he loves it and its full of fibre, which is just what he needs 😉

So what shall the three of us do in Canberra this afternoon?  Will loved visiting the War Memorial, the Sound and Film Archives, Questacon. But I’m not sure what will interest him at 20! I do have a few jobs for him to do here at the flat first…
