Day 5: 22nd May

on

We knew things were going to get a bit tougher around day 5 or 6, and this seams to be the case. Dave is ranking how he’s feeling based on percentages. On Thursday he said ‘I feel 100%’ and managed 30 push-ups. Today he has mentioned 70 and now 60%. No push ups so far. Given the good run he’s had so far he’s not complaining. But then he very rarely complains, about how he’s feeling anyway!

I am trying to get as much fibre into his diet as possible and not too much fat, as recommended by the Doctor he saw at the Army Hospital yesterday afternoon. Without too much detail this is a common side effect and he is trying to keep things under control with a mixture of the prescribed medication and a good diet.

Dave has always like rolled oats / porridge for breakfast. High in fibre, nutritious and with low-fat milk it has everything you need in a warming breakfast. And brown sugar. You can’t have porridge without brown sugar!

It is great to have Will here for a couple of days. This is definitely one of those ‘good things come out of bad’ situations. Its nice to see Will and Dave hanging out together and having a laugh together. Those of you who are mothers will know what I mean. Two people you love so much demonstrating their love for each other. Nothing better really.

PS The front page pic for today is sweet potato and corn fritters, bacon, sautéed spinach, tomato relish and garlic mushrooms. It was VERY delicious!  Anyone been to Gus’s Café in Civic? Its been around for a while and is an old favourite of ours.  Perfect spot to have a family brunch/lunch. (minus Victoria – wish she was here too 🙂 )
