Day 14: Tuesday 31st May

on

And here we are back at day minus 1 again. I now know why they call them ‘cycles’. It’s round and around we go! Tomorrows treatment is the 2nd part of cycle 1. So in a 28 day cycle, Dave gets treatment on day 1 and day 15.

Dave is pretty much feeling 100%, and tomorrow we have to go back and get a whole new lot of poison injected into him. I am definitely hoping and praying for the 6 treatments (3 cycles) they are hoping for rather than 12 which is possible.

We did some calculations yesterday and if all goes to plan, the chemo and then radio therapy should finish up late September. We have a big holiday booked to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and the departure date is the 8th of October. We do have travel insurance, but fingers crossed we don’t have to use it!

When the Radiotherapy doctor asked him yesterday how the chemo treatment was going Dave said ‘ Really good, hardly any side effects at all’. Now that’s not entirely true, he couldn’t do much at all on days 5-9, but I guess all things considered it definitely hasn’t been as bad as he was prepared for. No doubt each time he gets treatment it will get harder, but we are both thankful that so far he is managing. I massaged his arm while he went to sleep last night, he said it was sore and aching, but maybe he is getting used to the TLC from me 🙂

Anyone been to Akiba in Civic? What a fantastic Asian influenced ‘tapas’ style restaurant. Not perfect for a table for 1 because I wanted to try everything, but I did get to sit at the ‘raw bar’ and chat to one of the chefs! Who wants to come with me next time?

The chef shucking oysters…

And last nights dinner, garlic and tomato lamb shanks with mash. (cover pic) I had potatoes in the cupboard but no polenta, so that’s how I decided on the accompaniments.  I brought the slow cooker from Wagga last weekend; more braised winter dishes to come 🙂
