17th October -Back to Venice

Firstly, happy, happy, happy, birthday to Pamela. I hope you have had a lovely day. Today is only just starting here, you should pop in for a birthday breakfast with us 🙂 Thank you for all that you do for Dad, but especially thank you for making him very happy. In turn, it also makes me very happy. If I’m going to use my list of acceptable accommodation standards (as noted a few days ago here), then this hotel is not only going to meet requirements, it’s going to totally blow that list away!

Does anyone recognize this movie scene… img_0871

As many of you will know Dave is a big James Bond fan. Our decisions around holiday destinations are usually based around the ability to get as many passport stamps as possible, preferably getting ones from a range of letters of the alphabet. (It’s why we’re flying home via Qatar- the only country in the world starting with the letter Q).

The other deciding factor is locations for James Bond movies. It’s why we visited the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami last year. And why we are staying here at the Danieli Hotel in Venice! (built in 1700s and has been an hotel since 1822)

The scene above – very similar to Daniel Craig’s version of JB in Casino Royale (2006).

When we booked this night’s accommodation we added to the request, “It is our 25th wedding anniversary and we would love a room overlooking the lagoon, similar to that used in the 1979 film Moonraker.” (both films use the Daniela in them)

On our arrival yesterday some good news. “We have upgraded your room to a large deluxe corner suite – over looking the lagoon, just as you requested”

Wow.

Wow.

That is all I can think of to describe this room. It is three times the size of other rooms in this already amazing hotel.  It is a corner room with four windows overlooking Venice lagoon. There are two balconies. There are even two showers!

I am so glad we sent them our request – as Dave says, “you won’t get snot on your finger if you don’t pick your nose,” in his usual uncouth way!

We took lots of photos – here are a few…

Yes, the walls are lined with material rather than wallpaper. Yes, there is a bathroom, bedroom, sitting room, lounge room and foyer! Yes, there was champagne on ice for our arrival. Yes, we both slept very well, thanks for asking 😉

While I never want to leave, I guess we have to. After breakfast (I am expecting big things so pictures and details will be here tomorrow) we will head to the port this morning and board our cruise on Rhapsody of the Seas. First stop – we are headed back to Slovenia (Remember we went there accidentally last week!)

Last night we kept things simple and went back to the little trattoria we ate in on our first night last week. Dave did his usual thing and ordered the same as he did last week (breaded veal Milanese and chips). I tried the local venetian specialty of squid braised in its own ink. It was served with grilled polenta. Spinach for the side.  I also had a delicious bowl of pasta and bean soup (Pasta e Fagioli). Dave ate the full basket of bread! We finished with panacotta with fruit. Just one serve to share. No need for gluttony!

It is VERY foggy here this mooring. I’d take a picture but all I can see out the window is fog! I hope that doesn’t slow done ships leaving like it does with airplanes!
