Boring Bali

Did that catch your eye? Boring Bali!!!

Social media seems to me mostly about the ups and the downs rather than the mundane.

A great meal, a proud parent, an exciting holiday.

A broken relationship, a hard day at work, unwell or difficult children.

Because of this it can appear to those who skim SM posts that their ‘friends’ lives are somehow more exciting than they really are.

As we planned this little sojourn to Bali, I didn’t tell many people. I am sure it seems to many that we are always on holidays. (I won’t share Dave’s count of passport stamps for 2018!). And there is not a doubt we have absolutely had an abundance of amazing opportunities to visit wonderful places across the world. To say we have had more than our fair share is undoubtedly true.

Sometimes I use the hashtag #workhardplayhard. Holidays, and obviously the subsequent eating opportunities, are one of my key motivators. I do work hard (and love doing so), and it’s often the thought of planning, enjoying and sharing travel experiences that really drives me to keep going when I’m feeling overwhelmed or exhausted.

And so we end up in Bali. And to be perfectly honest, I am really hoping it is fairly boring! I am pretty tired and so is Dave.  We just need to have a week of nothing. And even though Bali is a busy place, it’s actually a great place to just do nothing but RELAX!

So ‘boring’ is probaby the wrong word, but doing a whole lot of NOTHING is definitely the plan.

We flew out of Sydney late on Friday afternoon. Getting though the check-in and customs/immigration/security was a breeze. Twenty minutes from when Victoria dropped us off to being in the duty-free shops. Not bad!

We flew Qantas and I’m glad we did. It was a smallish plane (737) and we got pretty good seats with reasonable leg room and no one in the seat beside us. Food was excellent (There were three choices: Dave had Bangers and Mash, I had a grilled Salmon Poke bowl) All served with warm garlic bread, cheese and bikkies and followed by a Weiss Bar (not for me, full of sugar!). Very pleasant and mature flight attendants, a good choice of movies and the six hours went by in a flash.

Who has seen ‘THE MERGER”? I was thrilled to see it listed on the Qantas movies as I was super keen to watch it. Filmed in and around Wagga, it was cheerful, amusing and light-hearted, with a touch of meaningful as the characters in the slightly hick town of ‘Bodgy Creek’ welcome (and not) refugees into their footy club, which ultimately gets it back on track.  I really enjoyed it, I’m sure in no small part to seeing familiar faces and places.

We landed 20 minutes early and our bags were in the first dozen to come up on the luggage belt. No queues for Customs, the obligatory stamp in the passport, and we were on the road to our villa.

The villa is in Seminyak, very close to the square. It is simple, but lovely, has a decent sized pool, an open air kitchen and living area and two well appointed bedrooms. Yes theres a spare bed if anyone wants to hop on a plane and join us! The especially fabulous part is the SUPER comfy bed and pillows.  After a quick walk for a late night snack (scallop, squid and prawn Nasi Goreng for me and French fries and a Chai Tea (yes a strange combo 😉 ) for Dave, then we hit the pillow for a lovely peaceful, cool nights sleep in our home away from home for the next week or so.

A little warning to finish off. This might be a relaxing holiday, but it will definitely be all about food. Food porn coming your way, if you read the blog!
