Can we please move here?

I accidentally forgot to be bored yesterday… but had a fabulous day!

What a great Sunday we had.

We started with our usual breakfast of eggs on toast, fresh fruit, juice for Dave and a decent cup of tea (or three) for me.

Each morning we have been getting up for an early swim. Dave has taken to ‘walking laps’ to make sure he can eat as much yummy food as possible. Its actually such a great form of exercise, all the benefits of walking without getting hot and sweaty and no sore feet.

After breakfast I propped myself up on the day bed, and settled down to a good read. It was one of those times that everything felt just perfect. Weather was warm, but not too hot, day-bed was comfortable, book was fabulous, company was great! I was so comfortable that I read a couple of chapters and then promptly fell asleep 😉

Do you like to spend time by yourself? While I am loving spending some serious time with Dave after him being away so much recently, I do still like a little me-only time. I headed off for a short walk to grab some lunch. Dave often only has something small for lunch, or nothing at all, so he said he wasn’t hungry enough. What is that haha?

I choose a restaurant in eat-street (Salazon), which was only about 10 minute walk from the villa. I loved the décor and the menu was promising, so ventured in, although there were no other customers in there. Usually  I only choose restaurants that have plenty of customers, but gave it a go anyway, given it was only 12.15, so I thought perhaps it just hadn’t got busy yet. The menu was tapas-style, with lots of choices of small items. I choose Thai fish cakes and then some beef rendang bao buns. Both were absolutely delicious, freshly made by a row of chefs on display across the open bar-style kitchen. 8/10.

A squirrel said hello on my walk back!

After a little google research, I found the name of a Day Spa that was rated highly, had online bookings and complimentary accommodation pick ups. The car picked me up at about 1.30pm for the short drive there. A cool towel and rosehip tea and then I was whisked away to an amazing therapy room for a wonderful relaxation massage and kaffir lime and ginger body scrub. Sooooo good. After a shower I was taken to the ‘foot room’ for a shellac pedicure. Perfect timing for the return to Australia in Spring and open-toe shoes 🙂

I decided to not take the transfer back, as google maps said it was only a 25 minute walk. I did take the long route to walk past a few places I was keen to look at, so meandered along the busy streets watching, hearing and smelling the sites of Bali. I did end up with nearly 10,000 steps for the day, so much for relaxation and being bored! img_5069

A little post-massage-and-walk swim, and it was time to get ready for dinner.

I had booked dinner at Bikini a few months ago, knowing it was very popular. I think I might have peaked too early, giving Sisterfields an 8.5 yesterday!  This was truly an amazing experience, from the unbelievably friendly, charming and polished service, to the modern flavoursome and technically-advanced food. Wow, wow, wow. We choose the ‘let the Chef feed me’ menu, meaning the chef chose 10 dishes for us to share. Dave was a little apprehensive, but did taste and enjoy pretty much everything.

The lighting in the restaurant was lovely, but not conducive to photos unfortunately. The first dish was a chicken satay (cover photo), but not what you (or I) was thinking. More like a ‘fish cake’ where the coriander and spice flavoured meat was bound around a ‘twig’, rolled in a crisp quinoa coating and set over something that looked like hot coals, with dry ice used to make it look like smoke. Quite a bit of wow factor for dish number one! Potato with cream and beluga caviar followed, then black eggplant fritters; cerviche of lobster and citrus; kale crisps; lamb tartare; the most unbelievable gnocchi with truffle; tender as butter wagyu beef fillet and an amazing strawberry dessert that was layered with black meringue and liquorice ice-cream (yes I had a taste!)

Both of us also had cocktails, Dave a non-alcoholic ‘Bee-Passion’ a mix of tangerine, passionfruit juice and honey that he described as the ‘best drink I’ve ever had’, while I loved my jam jar with mint, orange, Cointreau and basil infused vodka.

Overall mark = 9.5/10. That’s going to be hard to beat!

A little post-dinner walk was next on the agenda. Seminyak certainly rocks hard on a Sunday evening, and it was amusing to see all the goings-on. I never felt unsafe, all the locals are just so lovely and polite. The drunk Aussies are even friendlier than at home, haha. We did our usual supermarket visit.  Prices were cheap – but a litre of chocolate  milk for Dave was our only purchase. Who doesn’t love a supermarket visit in whatever part of the world they visit?

I went to sleep wondering if it possible to move here. I’m settled right in 🙂
