Jack Spratt!

Yesterday was back to ‘boring’, and happily so. Our usual early morning swim was missed as by the time we got up breakfast was nearly ready. After breakfast we did have a swim, making sure we did plenty of walking laps to keep our fitness up (haha). All this lying around and eating is dangerous!

It was hotter again today, but our reading spot on the day bed with the overhead fan was still lovely. I finished my book and started another and Dave is streaming though his. We have a rule not to regularly tell each other about our books (It annoys Dave no end when I interrupt him) so I actually have no idea what he’s reading. Something with senseless gratuitous violence no doubt!

We got peckish not long after midday and hopped on the scooters and headed to Biku, a café close to Seminyak beach. It is famous for its high teas and both Dave and I don’t mind a high tea 😉 . The traditional Balinese style décor was attractive and given its good reviews I wasn’t surprised to see that the place was pretty full when we got there. I love they way the security fellow out the front of most restaurants/cafes ‘valet’ your scooters.

There were over 100 teas to choose from. Dave choose a Darjeeling and I choose a black Indonesian grown tea, keeping my eat/drink local ethos going even on holidays.  The layered tea plate came out quickly as did little bowls of strawberries and cream.

Do you know the Jack Spratt rhyme? Shared plates like this are great for the two of us – Dave eating everything sweet and me easting everything savoury!

Jack Sprat could eat no fat.
His wife could eat no lean.
And so between the two of them,
They licked the platter clean.

The layered plate full of food included the obligatory scones, jam and cream; cucumber sandwiches; smoked salmon sandwiches; mini fruit tarts; tiny savoury tarts; and three types of home made biscuits including little gingerbread men and jam drops.  Total cost for 2 was A$30. Bargain. 8/10.

Rushing now as we are about to be picked up for a days white water rafting, ill tell you about dinner at Barbacoa tomorrow 🙂
