Day 8 – Hump day: Wednesday 26 March 2020

on

Are we there yet?

For so many children this is an oft-used statement, especially when on a long road trip. My two, when they were young, used to ask it around Gundagai, one hour into a five hour trip from Wagga to Sydney. Today, I am behaving in a child-like manner and using it myself!

 Yes, I’m stir crazy.

Yes, I’m frustrated.

Yes, I’m under-exercising and therefore under-sleeping.

Yes, I just want to get out of here!

Yes, I know I should get a life and some perspective!

My days this week have quickly moved from the SLOW of Sunday into pretty manic. Hence today’s post is not only late, but also mostly pictorial. I hope that the statement ‘a picture tells a thousand words’  is true.

PICTURE 1: Last night we enjoyed left over roast lamb (meal #3 from the leg) and a large assortment of vegetables, with mushroom sauce. Best part: The braised cabbage. Reminded me of my grandmother. I love food memories 🙂

PICTURE 2: The animals are LOVING me being at home full-time. The cat (Velcro) spends all day sleeping in various positions; all within 50cm of me!

PICTURE 3: What I wouldn’t give for even 30 minutes at the hairdresser rather than none! Resorting to home colour. If it turns out OK, imagine how much money I can save 🙂 (thanks to DM for agreeing to be my salon assistant next weekend)

PICTURE 4: More sous-vide lamb cooking. This time shanks, marinated in garlic and rosemary, cryovaced, and popped into the immersion circular at lunch-time for a 30 hour cook @165°F(75°C). Just in time for dinner tomorrow night.

PICTURE 5: ‘Contactless’ shopping. Managed to get a few things today without even leaving the house 😉 Thanks to Emma (pharmacy run), Woolworths (a few bits and pieces including a couple of magazines) and Loam and Stone (for delivering the dirt for my new veggie garden).

PICTURE 6: I’m constantly reminding myself to get perspective. How easy it is to feel sorry for myself. I have so much to be thankful for. Over the hump today – I reckon you will see an improvement in my attitude tomorrow.

Take care, and stay safe peeps (and at home if you can).
