ISO Day 11 – Boxing Day

Boxing day tradition – for my family watching the start of the Sydney to Hobart and then Day 1 of the Melbourne Test.

Is anything about 2020 normal? Not for me, and not for anyone else, I suspect.

I do love traditions. New ones and old ones. Cultural traditions and family traditions. Funny ones and serious ones.

Here is a snap shot of my fellow quaratiners favourite traditions:

VICTORIA: Attending Day 3 of the Sydney test wearing pink.

BRADEN: A cup of hot tea first thing in the morning.

PAMELA: Family decoration of the Christmas tree – especially the Champagne.

DAVE: Listening to the Queen’s Christmas message.

DAD: Nil Response – he says he like things to be spur of the moment!

ME: All my favourite traditions are food related – but I think Christmas glazed ham takes the cake!

Boxing day was lovely and warm, well into the acceptable swimming temperature range. A competitive game of water volleyball ensued, resulting in pink shoulders and 3000 calories burned (thanks to my Apple watch). Turns out being in the deep end is quite hard work!

Lunch consisted of – you guessed it – leftovers. Pamela and I peeled the remaining prawns and mixed them with a peppery mayonnaise mix. I shredded some iceberg lettuce and we filled wholemeal sandwiches with the prawns, lettuce and plenty of real butter!

Playing board games is not something I do much of. Victoria and Braden, however, love it. On Christmas night we played monopoly (I won!) and last night we opened Braden’s Christmas present from Victoria – “Risk”. I’m still not quite sure of the rules, but it was lovely to sit by the pool in the evening as it cooled down and the sun set.

This is the latest tradition I am really loving. Dave learned from Dad. He is delivering me a cup of tea each morning in bed… wonder if that will continue at home!

What are your favourite traditions? Any new ones you have added this year?
