Happy Birthday Victoria x

Day 14 – Tuesday 29th December

A lovely way to enjoy the last day of isolation was to celebrate Victoria’s 28th Birthday. The Festival of Victoria began with her favourite breakfast… croissant French toast with strawberries, bananas and warm chocolate fudge sauce. Ham and Egg muffins were made for those who didn’t want something quite so sweet for breakfast!

The surprise that Pamela had organized for Victoria soon became obvious. Apparently I had never made Victoria a cake from the Women’s Weekly ‘Birthday Cake Cookbook’ (mother of the year award ?) so here was her chance, made no less than by the author of the book herself! We had managed to source online deliveries of blue jelly, sponge, chocolate sticks, musk sticks, icing, candles, small dolls and a cocktail umbrella. I have 143 spare tiny umbrellas left if anyone wants some!

The cake took shape as the day progressed!

The present purchasing was a little difficult but she did ok, all things considered.

By late morning our final test results had arrived. Each negative result text coming through to us one-by-one over an hour or so. Each time someone’s phone pinged we let out a little squeal of delight.

We tried hard throughout the day to use up (eat) the remaining fridge contents and started to pack up ready for leaving. Cricket watching was limited and to be honest disappointing. Victoria and Braden had a swim, despite the moderate maximum temperature of 23c, and when the Kingfish delivery arrived I began to prepare dinner. Victoria’s birthday dinner request was grilled fish, lemon sauce, crushed baby potatoes, brocollini, glazed carrots and buttered snow peas.

We could have left isolation at 1159pm, but decided to wait till morning… most of us went to bed reasonably early in anticipation of the long drive ahead. V+B stayed up playing games with about 10 of her friends on Zoom.

It might not have been exactly what she would have normally done for her birthday, but I think it was a happy one nonetheless- filled with friends, family and good food! Happy Birthday Princess ?
